Orthodontic extractions/exposures

When you undergo orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist might request having specific teeth removed or impacted teeth extracted (or exposed), to facilitate better alignment and achieve the best orthodontic result.

The most commonly impacted teeth (apart from wisdom teeth) that interfere with orthodontic treatment are impacted canines (upper jaw).

These teeth are either extracted (removed) or exposed, so that the orthodontist can pull them in a controlled way in alignment with the rest of the teeth.

The procedure of surgical removal of impacted canines follows the same principles as for wisdom teeth. In the case of surgical exposure, a window is made through the gums and occasionally a gold chain is attached to the impacted tooth, to facilitate orthodontic movement.
